Avoiding Counterfeits

LIFEGUARD® has successfully built its premium brand based on quality and innovation. Unfortunately, that success attracts a growing number of counterfeiters who offer fake LIFEGUARD® products. They often illegally use the LIFEGUARD® name, logo, trademark or image in an attempt to mislead the consumer into thinking they are purchasing authentic LIFEGUARD® Products. We continue to work hard to stop these activities. Our most effective weapon, however, is to arm you with information that will help you avoid being the victim of the worldwide scam.

Here are some helpful guidelines to avoid being a victim of counterfeit products:

  1. Purchase LIFEGUARD® Products from authorized LIFEGUARD® retailers. The best way to avoid purchasing counterfeit products is to deal only with reputable retailers that are officially authorized by LIFEGUARD®. Also keep in mind that if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  2. Be wary; counterfeit products always have differences in quality of manufacturing and performance. Many stores selling counterfeits have become increasingly well organized and established so as to imitate a store selling legitimate products. Counterfeits are now increasingly sold online creating more opportunities to dupe consumers into thinking they are buying genuine LIFEGUARD® products at discounted prices. While some websites openly market fake goods, others pass off their goods as genuine by displaying pictures of the genuine item. It is only after receiving the purchase that you realize you have been tricked into buying a counterfeit.
  3. When in doubt, be sure to physically inspect the offered product and compare it to a genuine LIFEGUARD® product. There are typically significant or subtle differences in packaging, shape, color, markings, finish and/or various insignia. We caution that it can be difficult to determine a fake LIFEGUARD® product by comparing photographs. This comparison should be done with the actual products in front of you. Counterfeiters also use the trick of displaying a photo of a genuine LIFEGUARD® product on their web site, but ship buyers something entirely different. How can you avoid these traps? Again, we strongly recommend that you follow Guideline No. 1 and purchase only from authorized LIFEGUARD® retailers.
  4. Be particularly careful when buying online. Internet sites that fail to provide reasonable contact information or ship from a faraway location likely take advantage of domain proxy services to hide their identity or list bogus addresses and telephone numbers in their WHO IS or ABOUT US data. Don't be scammed online - check the site before you buy. Online auction sites are rife with counterfeits, and since you can't inspect the goods first, it's hard to tell what you're buying. Use caution; spam emails will almost always direct you to illegitimate sites.

We hope you find these guidelines helpful, and that you take them into consideration when shopping for LIFEGUARD® products. Please contact LIFEGUARD® if you have any questions concerning the authenticity of product you have purchased. If you purchased what you later determine to be a counterfeit LIFEGUARD® product, your options include reporting the seller to the appropriate authorities and registering a complaint to the email below. LIFEGUARD® would appreciate your reporting the seller to us so we can investigate further.
